Namaste! Greetings from India!

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, along with WHO welcomes the participants and delegates of the "2019 World Conference on Access to Medical Products - Achieving the SDGs 2030” scheduled from 19-21 November 2019, New Delhi, India.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an ambitious global agenda. Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) - Good Health and Well-being aims at ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Health finds mention in many of the 17 SDGs; each has a direct or indirect bearing on health. Therefore, diverse capacities are required to achieve the SDG aspirations. WHO’s 13th Global Programme of Work (GPW13) provides strategic direction for achieving SDG 3 and contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Universal health coverage (UHC) and access to medical products, is one of the regional flagship priorities for countries in the WHO South-East Asia Region. The Health Ministers of the WHO South-East Asia Region participating in the 71st session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia in New Delhi, India adopted the Delhi Declaration on ‘Improving access to essential medical products in the South-East Asia Region and beyond’. This reaffirmed the commitments by Member States in the World Health Assembly and Regional Committee Resolutions to improve accessibility and affordability by concerted actions for strengthening national policies, regulation, rational use, and intellectual property aspects for public health, to implement the road map for access to medicines and vaccines and other health products, 2019-23.

In this conference, MoHFW with the support of WHO, will focus on access to medical products, which is one of the critical factors for the success of the SDGs. Reliable access to effective, safe, quality-assured and affordable medical products (medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, devices) is key to making progress towards UHC and the SDGs.

The main objective of the 2019 World Conference is to track progress on the recommendations from the 2018 World Conference for access to medical products for achieving universal health coverage in the context of SDGs.

The 2019 World Conference will take forward the international and national discussions for access to medical products on the themes of UHC and innovation, regulation of medical products and access, and legal landscape and trade-related aspects in the context of access to medical products.

We request your participation on all the three days of the conference and provide your valuable inputs for productive outcomes.

We hope you will find your participation enriching and rewarding.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India welcomes you to India with an abiding belief in ‘vasudhaiva kutumbakam’, that is, ‘the world is one family’!
